The Clark Group, LLC (TCG) recently completed a Determination of Eligibility (DOE) and Vermont Architectural Resource Inventory (VARI) for the Village of Gilman Historic District in Lunenburg, Vermont. This project focused on documenting and evaluating over 140 residential, civic, and industrial buildings in this early 20th-century mill town.
Our team led the historic resources survey, which included field documentation, photographic records, and GIS mapping to assess the district’s architectural and historical significance. The evaluation considered the district’s ties to regional industrial development, company-sponsored community planning, and vernacular architecture. Special attention was given to the role of the Gilman Paper Company in shaping the town’s economy and built environment.
As part of our work, TCG developed a detailed GIS map identifying contributing and noncontributing properties, along with a comprehensive photographic and descriptive inventory. The final DOE and VARI were submitted to the Preservation Trust of Vermont in support of the district’s nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.
